The festive period can be a particularly difficult time for some families where incidences of domestic violence rise in many homes. Lynn gave a radio talk to the students of University of the West of Scotland highlighting the problem, and offering advice for anyone affected.
Many students may be returning to family homes where domestic abuse and violence has been the norm, or they themselves may be in a relationship and aware that there are signs or behaviours that may indicate they are experiencing domestic abuse. The Freedom Programme is free to attend and offers awareness, education and support to identify the tactics used by perpetrators and courses run for 12 weeks in various locations. The National Domestic Violence Helpline is run in partnership by Women's Aid & Refuge and is open 24 hours a day. The number is 0808 2000 247.
